MTV Breaks X MTV Shuga Winners Announced

The time has finally come!!! Together with the people over at MTV Breaks, we have selected the newest members of the MTV Shuga family…

Almost 2000 photography entries; hundreds of director submissions, and a whole lot of talent. The MTV Breaks X MTV Shuga competition, launched at the end of 2016, saw entries fly in from all over Naija and Mzansi. The talent was REAL. We were blown away by the dope submissions everyone sent in, as well as the passion and creativity showcased by the photographers and directors. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent with us.

Looking for a photographer to capture the fast-paced action on the MTV Shuga set, and a director to shoot a scene in our brand new show, was no easy task. Whilst we have big love for all of our Shugafam, we could only pick one photographer and one director to be our winners.

Following sleepless nights and hours of discussions with industry experts, we have reached our decision. We are so pleased to present to you the newest members of our Shugacrew. Show some love:

DIRECTOR
MLU GODOLA, 21, South Africa

Mlu graduated last year from AFDA film school in South Africa. The film he submitted, Sicela Amanzi, told the tragic tale of a family struggling to get by during a time of drought. We were so impressed by the film’s concept, Mlu’s brilliant directing, and his clear commitment and passion. We can’t wait to have him on the MTV Shuga set next month!

ESEOSA IKPONMWOSA, 24, Nigeria

Eseosa finished university in 2015 and has been freelancing as a photographer for the last few years. During this time he has built an amazing visual diary of his street photography in Lagos.

We were massively impressed by Eseosa’s use of composition and lighting, and his winning entry expertly captured  the action-packed movement we were looking for. You can see Eseosa’s winning entry at the top of the page.
