How MTV Shuga is tackling HIV

December 1st marks World AIDS Day – an important day in the MTV Shuga calendar.
Each year, World AIDS Day reminds us that millions of people throughout the world live with HIV/AIDS, and that our fight against its spread is constantly ongoing. World AIDS Day should be a time to come together and unite in our battle, whilst also supporting those people who are HIV positive.
Here at MTV Shuga we are working every day to help create a better, more understanding world, and we’re proud of what we’ve achieved over the last few years. Let us walk you through what exactly MTV Shuga is, and what we’ve been able to realise in our journey so far…
What is MTV Shuga?
#ICYDK: MTV Shuga is a 360 mass-media campaign, which sets about changing people’s behaviour for the better through various means. At the core of our work is our award-winning drama, but like all trees, we have many branches…
Ranging from comic books, radio shows, to a strong social presence – Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. All of these platforms give us the opportunity to make a positive impact in our bid to improve people’s sexual and reproductive health.
As well as focusing on HIV, we also deal with difficult issues such as gender-based violence, transactional relationships, safe sex and pregnancies (to name a few). Tackling these things head-on, in an open and honest way is one of the ways we try to breakdown stereotypes and spread the power of knowledge.
We’re not here to tell anyone how to live their lives. We’re here to provide you with some of the tools you need to live life the way YOU want.
