You’re in the heat of the moment and you realise you don’t have any condoms and you’re not using contraception, I guess pulling out is better than nothing right?! Well, NO!
You heard Wasiu describe “half in- half out” to Simi who was adamant about using a condom, and remember how he boastfully told his boys about his fool proof pull-out+ antibiotics combo. Let’s just clarify this now. That is utter foolishness!
Pulling out is exactly what it sounds like: pulling the penis out of the vagina before ejaculation (aka cumming). Pulling out is as popular a method as ever with young adults and teens. It doesn’t cost anything, maybe you’ve even tried it a few times, and nothing happened. Count yourself lucky, because the pull out method is one of the least reliable forms of contraception.
It seems straightforward enough right? If semen (cum) gets in your vagina, you can get pregnant. So ejaculating away from a vulva or vagina prevents pregnancy. But you have to be sure to pull out before any semen comes out, every single time you have vaginal sex, in order for it to work- and that is impossible to know, so why play games and rely on chance?
Wasiu bragging to his boy’s about his use of the pull-out method.
While the pull out method can sometimes prevent pregnancy, it doesn’t protect you against sexually transmitted infections and HIV. Some STI’s like chlamydia, syphilis, or gonorrhoea can be carried in precum, and other STI’s like genital warts and herpes are spread through direct skin-to-skin contact. If you’re going to have sex the best way to prevent STI’s is by using condoms.
Obviously, birth control is a personal choice and we cannot choose what is best for you, but if your goal is to actually prevent pregnancy, you would be better off ditching the pull-out method and using condoms, the pill the Implant, or an IUD. Ultimately, going to the clinic and discussing what’s the best birth control for you and your situation.
Pulling out is ineffective, around 22 out of 100 people who use withdrawal get pregnant every year — that’s about 1 in 5.
The reason the effectiveness is so low is because this method presents a lot of room for human error. Many guys can’t withdraw immediately and the first few drops of semen that emerge from the penis are the most loaded with sperm.
Always put your safety first, use protection and enjoy the ride!
