Game of Thrones, unconditional love and microbiology…
What do all of these things have in common? Check out our exclusive interview with Alvin Abayomi to find out!
Alvin will be bringing the heat to MTV Shuga Naija by introducing the world to his new character, ‘Ebisinde’.
It’s not all fun and games though, as we put him under the MTV Shuga spotlight and find out what our newest star is all about…
Describe yourself in three words…
Goal-oriented, adventurous and a risk-taker.
Where’s home?
Home is anywhere with people who love me unconditionally.
Where’s your favourite spot in Naija?
My friend’s swimming pool…Well, I don’t have a pool so I go to his house to swim.
*I hope he’s not reading this because I have told him a million times that I don’t care about his pool*
What do you do to relax?
I watch a lot of movies and TV series, play football and swim.
What’s your favourite song on your playlist right now?
I have four at the moment:
-Tonight -R2bees ft Wizkid
-Sofa – Kiss Daniel
-Fault in our Stars – Ed Sheeran
-It ain’t me – Kygo ft Selena Gomez
What’s your favourite TV show?
I have multiple favourites right now and they are: ‘The Voice Nigeria’, ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘MTV Shuga’, ‘Empire’, ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ and ‘Originals’.
What made you want to become an actor?
The passion I developed for it while watching home videos when I was very young.
If you weren’t an actor, then you would be…
A microbiologist. But for some weird reason I don’t know, maybe a Pastor. Okay,I think it is because my best friend always says she can see me as one.
Best piece of advice you ever received?
Calm down, be patient, improve your craft and don’t be in competition with anybody – Funke Akindele gave me these wise words.
How do you overcome day-to-day challenges in your life?
Depends on the challenge, but one basic thing I do is to tackle any challenge head-on. No delay, no procrastination. Just breath, think and tackle.
What made you want to get involved in MTV Shuga?
Apart from the fact that it is one of the biggest series to ever emerge from Africa, I also wanted to get involved because I want to be part of the message which the MTV Staying Alive Foundation is passing on to the world.
What social issues covered in the show are close to your heart?
HIV/AIDS, teenage relationships, social pressure, challenges at school (this especially because at some point in my secondary school days I went through similar experiences, but thank God I found my way back to the right path, and is an important reason as to why I can relate to Ebisinde’s character so well).
What are 3 things you wish to accomplish in your life?
Make myself a better man, make my immediate family happy and make the world a better place in my own way.
If I can accomplish these three things, then I would be fulfilled in life.
What are you most looking forward to about the new season of MTV Shuga in Nigeria?
I can’t wait for the world to get to know ‘Ebisinde’; feel his joy, feel his pain, understand the the reasons behind his decisions and try to see the world through his teenage eyes.
Follow MTV Shuga on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for the full scoop on the coming season, and keep an eye out for more interviews with our cast as part of the #MeetTheCrew series…
