In case you forgot to tune in, here’s the low-down on what happened this week on Shuga Radio!
So, after six months, Roli’s parents have found themselves in deep wahala and are still unable to pay off their massive debt to Baba Bose. Without her parents’ knowledge, Roli tells her boyfriend, Hassan, who offers to loan her the money, as long as he keeps getting “skin-on-skin” from Roli. In the meantime he continues to generously give Roli some money to buy food for her family.
Patricia unsuccessfully tries to persuade Bitrus to join the Safe Sex Club. He is very shy and ashamed of talking about sex to anyone. Patricia argues that his attendance will automatically encourage other students to join the club too, which is a good thing for both them.
Confused and worried about Talatu’s numerous injuries, Patricia takes her to see Nurse Ekaette; despite Talatu constantly trying to convince her that they are merely results of household incidents.Eventually, poor Talatu confesses to Nurse Ekaette that she is being abused, but refuses to say by whom.
Chuks gets in trouble with Mrs Balogun after singing in class. When she teases him on being susceptible to diseases or unwanted pregnancies because he is assumedly always with girls, he openly affirms his practise of safe sex, bravely proclaiming that he always has condoms on him, as instructed by Miss Uju. As a result, Mrs Balogun gives him a few painful strokes of the cane. Chai!
Hassan suggests that he and Roli practise “withdrawal”, since she’s on the last day of her period, or, as she calls it, her “last safe day”; unaware that conception can happen during menstruation, nor does it prevent the transfer of sexually transmitted infections and diseases.
What do you think of the Safe Sex Club? Do you think all schools should have something like it?
