1. In episode 3, Foye slapped Ekene when she realised he was cheating on her, with her best friend. What people don’t know is the reaction on Ekene’s face is 100% real. The director didn’t tell him it was coming! Ouch!

2. Dorcas Shola-Fapson who plays Sophie, was actually born and lives in the United Kingdom. She had to put on the accent in MTV Shuga; naturally she has a British accent.

3. There were scripting workshops involving the creative team and young people ahead of the filming, to make sure the characters and storylines were as personable and relatable as possible.

4. Okezie Morro who plays Ekene has also acted in Gulliver’s Travels featuring Jack Black, and World War Z featuring Brad Pitt.

5. Tiwa Savage made her acting debut in Shuga Naija.

6. Maria Okanrende was chosen to play Foye (aka DJ Foxxy)as she’s a DJ in real life.

7. Emmanuel Ikubese, who plays the character Femi, can speak Swahili.

8. In the original script, Solomon was supposed to get shot and not Sophie.

9. The scene where Weki was kicking a ball in his school uniform, before his coach came to meet him in episode 3, was actually a stunt double and not the actor who plays Weki, Olumide Owuru.

10. The actors had to get tested for HIV ahead of filming so they really know how it felt to get counselled and tested.
