That’s a wrap Shugafam – three events, in three cities, over three weeks – On Tour with Shuga has come to a sweet end. And what an end it was!
From Calabar to Abuja and finally concluding our three-stop #ShugaTour at the University of Lagos, over 3000 people turned up to see the hottest artists perform. IcePrince, Patoranking and Reminisce, closed the show with their exclusive performance of the new MTV Shuga title track ‘Catch Me’. You can watch a snippet of it here.
Not only did we bring in the best artists, but we had the finest DJs getting the crowd hyped during the event. DJ Humility and DJ Neptune brought the beats and kept the energy of the night at another level. Other artists in attendance included; Loose Kaynon and Kola Soul.
Shugfans who managed to get a ticket to this ‘money-can’t-buy’ event, were also given the opportunity to audition to become a reporter for the upcoming MTV Shuga season 4 premiere, and they did not disappoint. The talent that came through was great and the finalists from all three events will be on YouTube shortly for you all to see.
The whole atmosphere was just buzzing, the Shuga cast – Timini Egbuson, Sharon Ezeamaka and Emmanuel Ikubese – were out in force to answer those burning questions about ShugaNaija, which was not only entertaining but informative.
There were many unmissable moments during the show. From an overhyped fan jumping on the stage to get closer to Ice Prince, to an overzealous auditionee being reduced to a whimper after meeting Ehiz, the host of the night. And a touching moment when Patoranking gave away his Louis Vuitton Jacket & shoes to a fan in the audience.
However, during all of this action, the best thing to witness was the mass of people queuing by the Shuga cafe to get tested. Hundreds of people moved seamlessly from taking a selfie on the red carpet, to listening to the music, then heading to the HIV counselling and testing booths. Showing just how important – and easy ¬– getting tested and knowing your status is.
This has been a Shuga Tour to remember. Thank you all for making it what it was! To see highlights from all three events visit Instagram, Twitter or Facebook, and use the hashtag #ShugaTour.
Even though the tour is over there’s still so much to look forward to. The Shuga peer educators will be running community talks, engaging in open and honest discussion about sexual health. And the countdown for the all new series 4 begins – September can’t come soon enough!
