Want to know more about the stars behind MTV Shuga Naija? Look no further…
Last month we announced the full line-up for the brand new season of MTV Shuga. A whole host of new faces have joined the Shugafam to bring you the hottest season yet.
With production in full-swing and the new season edging closer by the day, it’s time for us to meet the people behind the characters, and find out a little bit more about our crew.
We sat down with our cast and asked them some quick-fire questions about themselves and all things MTV Shuga.
First up, Bolanle Olukanni, who will be playing ‘Uju‘ in MTV Shuga Naija.
Describe yourself in three words…
Goofy, resilient and passionate about social issues.
Where’s home?
Lagos.
Where’s your favourite spot in Naija?
Cafe Gourmet.
What do you do to relax?
Read a book and drink green tea.
What’s your favourite song on your playlist right now?
I know who I am by Sinach.
What’s your favourite TV show?
Walking Dead
What made you want to become an actor?
I really enjoy the expression of acting. Its a mentally and emotionally challenging job but a rewarding experience to portray a make believe character.
If you weren’t an actor, then you would be…
A public servant.
Best piece of advice you ever received?
Trust the process!
How do you overcome day-to-day challenges in your life?
When I was much younger I was a very pessimistic person and I had to train myself out of that mindset. I have done that through having a intimate relationship with God and also thought mental discipline to understand that life in itself is a challenge and it’s about trouble shooting one day at a time.
What made you want to get involved in MTV Shuga?
I have been a huge fan of MTV Shuga since season 1 and have always admired how it graciously covers social issues. It is such an engaging show with real and honest characters. I am very passionate about social issues and using my art to pass along a message. MTV Shuga is the perfect place to do so.
What social issues covered in the show are close to your heart?
Season 3 was very dear to me because one of the characters was a victim of domestic violence. I was really impressed with how the show dealt with such a prevalent, but not widely discussed, issue in our communities and I think that season 3 really brought it to light.
What are 3 things you wish to accomplish in your life?
Become a public servant
Adopt some children
Own a house in Cape Town
What are you most looking forward to about the new season of MTV Shuga in Nigeria?
The plot is so raw and honest. I am so impressed with the actors and how they brought the characters to life. So many new favourites already.
