MTV Shuga Naija: Episode 2 Recap

Adebola Aduwo is back with a recap of the latest episode of #MTVShugaNaija featuring Faa, Diana, Tobi and Leila.

We had barely gotten over the first episode of #MTVShugaNaija before episode two came and blew us away. I had a rush of emotions and I wasn’t sure how to feel when certain scenes came up. I’m sure you all can relate. Let’s have a quick recap of all the drama in episode two!

Faa has already got so much to handle – her family, career and now, her neighbour, Martins is lurking around her younger sister, Tare. This is giving her a lot of concern because she’s aware that Martins is a creepy man. She puts Tare in Ebisinde’s care but he doesn’t think it’s his responsibility to look after his baby sister. He wants to be a “man” that can provide for his family especially because his father is being irresponsible. Is he too young to be taking on such responsibility?

We were all up in our feelings just before Diana shared her hilarious sexual myths with her friends and gave us a little laugh. Apparently, Simi had sex for the first time and got really scared that she was going to get pregnant. Diana ignorantly pointed out that it’s impossible to get pregnant on your first time and if you have sex standing up, you can’t also get pregnant. Sadly, many young people believe these myths are true. Hadiza tried to explain to them that all those things are false but they didn’t take her seriously. The importance of proper sex education cannot be overemphasized. Back to Hadiza… how does she know these things? And why is she so secretive? She is definitely running from something and we’d have to wait to find out.

Outside of school, Diana is out partying with a man that’s definitely not in her age bracket. I’m not sure she knows what she’s doing but sis, if you fail at school this man won’t be here to help. Get your priorities right!

In a particular scene, we saw a really young girl being married off because her elder sister got pregnant three times out of wedlock. More often than not, we hear of little girls being married off to way older men and it’s becoming a norm. Child marriage is a very big issue that needs to be addressed.

We caught up with Leila once again and she is going out of her way to please Tobi. There’s so much manipulation in their relationship. Tobi is not to be trusted. He has found his way into Leila’s head and he’s making her do the things she’s not comfortable with. At the end of the episode, Leila caved in to his request and sent him nudes! (I’m still screaming!). Let’s hope this doesn’t have an ugly ending.
