In this week’s episode, there is a new English teacher at Chikota Grammar school, Miss Uju Igwilo. She causes quite a stir when she introduces a Safe Sex Club, where sex-related issues are openly discussed. Eager to get the students on board, Miss Uju convinces Patricia, who happens to be the health prefect, to join.

Patricia, spotting an opportunity to spend more time with her beloved crush, suggests that Bitrus would make a good addition to the team.

Mrs Balogun, the biology teacher, who also happens to be SJB’s mother, is opposed to any kind of sex talk or sex education in the school. She believes being firm and exposing students to as little information as possible is the best way to make sure they don’t have sex.

Nonetheless, Miss Uju is determined to make the club work and has the support of the school principal, whose daughter fell pregnant at 17. He agrees that talking about sex rather than avoiding it, is the best way to make sure the students make the right choices.

Patricia expresses her disgust of Soji taking a liking to her, calling him a “razz” guy. However, she is caught off guard when Miss Uju asks her if she thinks Bitrus is also ‘razz’…

We also meet Talatu, who is Patricia’s “school daughter”. Patrcia introduces Talatu to Miss Uju and explains that she is being cared for by Mrs Osagie, the ward councillor; who she says is a “true champion for women in the village”. However, no one is aware of what goes on behind the closed doors of their home; where Talatu is being mistreated.

Things heat up with Roli and her boyfriend, Hassan. Just before they’re about to have sex, Hassan asks if she is “safe” and she responds by telling him that she can “calculate” her safe times to have unprotected sex. They both believe that being safe means avoiding an unwanted pregnancy.

What is safe sex to you?
