Shuga Naija 2 had some true stand out moments; moments that shocked the Shugafam, united them, divided them and left them searching for more.
What it also showed us is the true power of women in the show – in their individual ways, they all rocked the screen.
Last week, we showed why Sheila Slayed, this week we’re looking at the badass Bongi.
Bongi
Bongi made a soft entrance onto our screens — as the sidekick and best friend to the over excitable Mary — Bongi seemed very laid back in comparison. But to underestimate Bongi would be a real mistake. She was one of the few characters who was grounded, knew what she wanted and knew her worth too.
She wasn’t chasing after the boys or looking for a quick way to get money, but instead she chose to follow her dreams. Having migrated from South Africa to Naija, she not only surrounded herself with good friends but found a way to pursue her passion – singing!
Like anyone going after what they want, she was nervous but didn’t doubt her talent –she kept her focus and goal in mind and ended up coming second in the singing competition.
Bongi proved to be a force to be reckoned with for many reasons. She was quick witted when needed – shooting down the sleazy bar man with a look and a few words when he tried to move to her. She also knew how to be a good friend; constantly warning Mary off Nii when she realized his relationship with her wasn’t natural.
But she didn’t abandon Mary for not listening to her, instead she stood by her through it all.
Bongi proved in so many ways why she is badass. She didn’t get caught up in all the drama, she rose above it and chose to be the calm in the storm. Everyone needs a Bongi in their life, or better still be a little more Bongi like!
